Geoff Davis is a Partner in CMBG³ Law’s California office, bringing nearly 30 years of civil litigation experience and a track record of successful verdicts for corporate clients. Licensed in California, Geoff combines deep trial experience with the strategic perspective of counsel who has seen — and shaped — how major litigation evolves at the national level.
Prior to joining CMBG³, Geoff spent nearly 17 years at an AmLaw 100 firm managing the defense of California and Hawaii toxic tort cases for a major client, while also serving as “drop-in” trial counsel across the United States. His appellate work includes representing clients before the California Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court, and he was part of the team that successfully argued the landmark O’Neil decision — a ruling that significantly altered the trajectory of asbestos litigation nationally. Geoff also managed his own practice as a solo practitioner, representing clients across tort, commercial, and environmental litigation in multiple industries.
Geoff Davis has first-chaired dozens of trials in asbestos cases, in state courts throughout California, as well as Philadelphia, New York, Seattle, Chicago, Madison County and others, and Federal Courts in California, Illinois, Florida and Arizona. Many of those cases resolved favorably during trial, but a number have gone to verdict. In fact, Geoff has only one verdict which resulted in a payment to the plaintiff. In addition, Geoff successfully argued the summary judgment motion that resulted in the California Court of Appeals decision in Taylor v. Elliott Turbomachinery, et al. 90 Cal. Rptr. 3d 414 (2009) and was co-first chair in the trial of O’Neil v. Crane Co., et al., which resulted in the 2012 California Supreme Court decision holding that equipment manufacturers are not liable for harm caused by replacement parts purchased from others (266 P.3d 987, 53 Cal.4th 335). Geoff also briefed and argued appeals in the Washington State Court of Appeal, California Court of Appeal and the Hawaii Supreme Court.
Geoff has also been incremental in the evolving silicosis litigation he has taken numerous fact and expert depositions in the lead-up to trials, and also has argued a number of important motions in the coordinated silicosis proceedings.
