Fifth Missouri Trial Begins In Talc Case

May 2, 2017 | Talc, Toxic Tort

In mid-April of 2017, the case of Lois Stemp started trial against Johnson & Johnson, in which Ms. Stemp alleges that Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products caused her ovarian cancer. Ms. Stemp alleges that she used Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products daily for 40 years. As of today, Plaintiffs continue to present their case to the jury, having called several experts to the stand to testify. Ms. Stemp’s attorneys claimed that Johnson & Johnson knew that its talc products caused ovarian cancer, but failed to provide warning labels or otherwise discontinue the use of talc in its products. Johnson & Johnson denies that it had any such knowledge

This case marks the fifth time in Missouri since the beginning of 2016 that an ovarian cancer allegedly due to talcum powder case started trial against Johnson & Johnson. In the first three trials, the juries returned verdicts in favor of the plaintiffs; however, on March 3, 2017, a jury found in favor of Johnson & Johnson, as we previously reported.

There are currently hundreds of cases pending in state and federal courts throughout the United States.
